We Mapped the Whole AI Music Field. Here's What's Missing.

Researchers screened 1,112 papers down to 723 to map the entire AI-music research field at once — composition, performance, and education, all in one picture. The field is growing almost 15% a year, and no single AI technique dominates. But the same review names the real cracks: a 2024 lawsuit over an AI song's melodic similarity, real lag in live AI performance, costly VR classroom hardware, and assessment tools that mark non-Western musical traditions as errors.
